Lucy Colbourn Very good use of contrasting characters with well embedded quoatations. To improve you could go into more detail in your analysis

Lucy C's is very cleear about control and good quotations great explanation! Improvements: steinbeck shows control and respect in the book but he is unable to show a scene eg: "when he shows curley starting a fight with lennie and he gets his hand crushed"

Kieran - You have a good point and quotation, but maybe you should embed your quotations a bit more. Lucy C - You missed a few capital letters but you analysed your point really well. Zach - Try to explain a bit more about the meritocracy idea but a really strong point.

Zahra Really good use of quotations to back up points especially about how Curley respects Slim. Really good use of PEE to show why Steinbeck has written certain things. Could maybe refer to the reader more.

Ryan T : good quotations great at getting point across Improvements : A lot of punctuation and sentance mistakes. Eg: In "of Mice and Men" (needs All CAPITALS) Steinbeck makes respect an important theme in the book for example.<--------comma) Slim is described as a living legend

In the book "Of Mice and Men" there are many different characters some with names some without. One of the main characters is Slim, nearly everyone in the book respects him, "his authorty was so great his word was taken on any subjec, be it politics or love." this shows that everyone heard what he had to say. He was thought to be like a "king."His ear heard more than was said to him," This shows he hears more than is said which reinforces the sence of wisdom. That he knows more than others. Essay paragraph

Steinbeck shows the theme of respect in the novel by using the character Slim. "A powerful, big stomached man came into the bunk... God like eyes" Slim is the only character in the novel to be described as powerful or important even though he is only a jerkline skinner. This makes the reader aware that slim is a highly respected and hard working character. Steinbeck uses Slim as a way to judge society for being an aristocracy. good you have used the main points of the question and used a good quotation and linked it in well nice one kieran

Curly is almost the least respected man on the ranch. everyone who works there dose not respect him the reason for this is because he is terrible at his job. Steinbeck has done this to show the reader that society is flawed and needs to be changed. Steinbeck has used Slim and Curly because slim should have Curlys job as he is good at his job and Curly should have slims job because he is terrible at his own.

Sophie Goodwin: It is good that you started talking about Slim first as he is the person is most associated with respect. You have also included strong embedded quotations. You then moved on to Curley who is the second person you would assciate with the theme of respect. It is good that you have included meritocracy and aristocracy and explained what they are. This is really good and i cannot think of any advice

Lucy c Has shown that the character respect slim by taking his word for everything, the quotation she found for this is very fitting. To improve i would embed your quotations.

zahra, yours is very good i can see you have followed the PEE structure which is a good thing to follow and the quotations are imbedded aswell, a thing to improve on would be to try and refer to reader and steinbeck a bit more than you have other than that welldone xx
